Faerie Playback Theatre this summer

topic posted Tue, June 21, 2005 - 11:39 AM by  Mountaine
I am now scheduled (airticketed) to go to Zuni Shamans Gathering (8/26 - 9/4), so I'll be offering workshops in faerie playback theatre there. Also 90% sure I'll do it at Destiny (Vermont) Lammas Gathering (7/29 - 8/7) and Short Mountain Fall Gathering (9/30 - 10/9). Looking to seed lots of faerie playback.

Personally, my work has improved lots as a result of the recent Stoneleaf Theatre Festival in Asheville, where I took a 4-morning class in movement (expanding my ability to invest meaning in character work) and where I was part of 5 Asheville Playback Theatre shows - acting in 3 and conducting 1. I've gone some new and amazing places emotionally with this work - didn't think I'd ever be capable of true crying/sobbing onstage, but now it's happened and I know I can do it!

Next week I'm taking a 5-day conducting class with Jonathan Fox, founder of playback. Gonna be even more READY TO SHARE with y'all. Lots of teeheehee, Mountaine

I'd like to offer a more intensive playback training this year at ZMS. If people are up for it, let's do it every day! I've learned a lot in the past year about teaching playback, and specifically about training playback "conductors" so more people are empowered to lead practices and performances. Also I've been collecting lots of really cool theatre games to build trust and exercise specific playback muscles. (Muscles - yum!) Putting it out for feedback and/or contemplation.

It's now confirmed that I'll be doing playback training at the Lammas gathering at Destiny in Vermont, 7/29 - 8/7. Playback junkies alert!

And since I'll be in Seattle in between Vermont and New Mexico (yep, this girrrl gets around and around), maybe we can have a one-night workshop there, co-led by experienced playbacker David Ray, if the energy is there for it. Monday 8/22 would be ideal for our mutual schedules, I think.

Hugs and hisses, Mountaine (home now in the NC mountains, and staying here most of July, which includes the Transformus regional burning man near Asheville with a thriving throbbing faeriecamp in final planning stages - July 22-24 - playback there - why not?)

I'm feeling the playback everyday, like starting the day with it or something. There are a lot of things to do and I certainly want to have time to explore the other realms of learning and teaching through the other workshops. But the more we do the more powerful and creative and amazing we become!! I am so grateful to you, Mountaine for bringing this amazing gift to us.
        Thank you!

yes, this is great and wonderful. I'm wondering can the connections we form through playback be integrated into our creation of sacred space. I missed out on playback last year, so I dont' know a whloe lot about it, I'm going to research this tribes posts, adn the internet. but I am very excited about a daily theater situation with ALL OF YOU BEAUTIFUL FAIRIES!!!!

            1) Faerie Playback at Faerie Camp Destiny (in Vermont) last week was AMAZING and lots of fun and really exciting. About 20 people came through the workshops, and last Saturday we had 10 people in a terrific performance with an audience of about 50. Lots of photos will be forthcoming.

            2) The ongoing Radical Faerie Playback Theatre Training Tour (me and whoever shows up) will be at Zuni Mountain Sanctuary August 27 - September 3. It's gonna be FABULOUS!

            3) Mark your calendars for November 13th, when playback theatre companies all over the world will be presenting shows - the event is called Global Playback for Kindness, and I'm very involved in coordinating this. We have a website at globalplayback.org - please check it out. And think about whether you're ready to host a show. If you're not ready, come to Zuni and play with us and GET ready!!!

            Big hugs,
            Mountaine

              Mountaine,

Thanks for sharing. I am so excited about all this faerie playback activity. I will check out the website. Can't wait until you come and do something in Seattle! I'm sure you could drum up interest in the NW fae community.

                Grrlz & Gurls & Guis!
i didn't make it to zuni this year and therefore missed the majority (actually the entirety) of the benefits that my corpreal attendAnce would have afforded me....
however, in reading this thread (on a whim, of course) i received the immediate inspiration to initiate dialogue that will result in having palyback at WC Samhain this fall.
Mountaine, i love you and thank you for heeding that call that has planted so many seeds, and now your work at zuni will allow for playback to debut at Mz Crik, for you to maintain your current tour schedule on the east coast and for some new budding faerie conductor(S) to pop their proverbial cherries by bringing a focal point in playback to the Samhain gathering at wolf creek in the end of october.
so hear this just-freshly-arrived-home-from-zuni-faeries--who-are-wondering: "well just when can i next practice my new found Conducting abilities?" join me for a moment, and think SAMHAIN...yeah, baby. see you there.

                much love, and jittery anticipation,

                bliss,
                -ender b-cup

p.s. for information on the samhain gathering you can go to the "wolf creek samhain call" tribe and see the latest post which is the newly completed samhain call (never would have guessed it by the name huh?)...that has all your desired p's and q's for mz samhain. -e

                  hey qween.

playback at zuni this year was fucking astounding. we had more than a dozen participants checking out the workshops during the course of the week and the performance was fun, moving and memorable (as always)

u and other gurlz from portland, santa cruz and other locales were sorely missed.

mountaine and i briefly discussed the possibility of doing a weekend playshop in portland similar to the san fran experience last march.

i would love to come up to pdx to help organize and participate. seems like the most fertile ground for seeding a faerie playback troupe.

let's toss out some dates, venues and start brainstorming.

unfortunately, samhain at WC is likely too bloody freezing for me to even consider attending. at least not until after the sauna gets installed ;p

                  hugz,

                    mz synergizm,

i've initiated what i trust to be dialogue in another thread that you've probably already seen on your way into this one. let's chat this up there or in emails. thanks for the inspiration, let's see/make this happen. talk to you soon.

                    my love to you.

Please keep us all posted about a faerie playback workshop in Portland. This fall or winter would be good timing for a weekend event. I would do my best to attend, and I can help to facilitate and/or organize if necessary. I have studied playback and was a member of Jo Salas' troupe in New Paltz.

Hiya everybody. It's finally getting colder here in the NC mountains. The sun is shining brightly, and soon I hope we get some fall colors (over 2 weeks late, thank you global warming...?!).

I would love to come to Portland for a workshop, to teach or co-facilitate with others, and to increase the focus on training conductors. Let's keep that conversation going. What would make it most worthwhile would be if there were a core group there that was planning to continue regularly after a workshop weekend. But if we planned a weekend like we had in March in SanFran but different (Friday evening, Saturday all afternoon, Sunday part afternoon, then a good long break, then Sunday evening public show), I'd be there!

In an email awhile ago, Synergeee suggested one story per practice session to be done without discussion/feedback, just for the joy of doing it. Great idea!

A few weeks ago I attended a playback gathering near Phillie with about 60 playback folks, mostly from the NE. It was wonderful, of course. 8 people got together at lunch one day to form a queer playback interest group, and what came up was forming a troupe to do playback shows as part of the Gay Games in Chicago next July 15-22. I'll keep this list informed as things evolve (or not).
